Coral Reefs Cayman Style An Environmental Study

Here is an opportunity for you to travel, explore, and study one of the most beautiful and diverse ecosystems on earth, the tropical coral reefs of Grand Cayman. You will study all the components of the coral reef ecosystem, from the interactions of living creatures to all the geologic features. You will do this by completing a series of 10 to 14 dives. Dive debriefings, discussions, presentations, and lectures are all part of this course. To study coral reefs you will need to learn to scuba dive. Scuba training and certification is included. This course will have two class meetings prior to the seven day trip.

The internet has been referred to as “unorganized and difficult to use”, but is loaded with a wealth of educational resources. With WWW software this vast amount of information can be organized in a way never thought possible. The classroom teacher can create a textbook for a specific lesson that is ever changing and up-to-date. We live in an age of constant change. The concept of interconnectivity and the global classroom is one of the variables that is effecting education and educators. Perhaps the most exciting manifestation of this interconnectedness is the Internet. The Internet is a global collection of people and computers, all linked together by many miles of cables and telephone lines, all able to communicate because they share a common language. During this course we will explore the Internet. This exploration will encompass the world of gopher, telnet, e-mail, and world wide web. You will learn terminology, be guided toward a conceptual understanding of the Internet, and become comfortable exploring cyberspace. You must have Internet access to take this course.

This is a CD-ROM based independent study course that will introduce the participants to the beginning concepts of HTML and web page development. Once these are mastered, they will move beyond the beginning concepts of HTML and learn how to incorporate the excitement of multimedia into your pages. That’s right! Sound, graphics, animation and video will become part of your web site. This all can be accomplished with software that is either free or very inexpensive. The CD contains teacher generated sample web pages, graphic images, animations, sample files and all of the software needed to bring your web pages to the next level of development. In additions, you will learn about tables, frames, images, image maps and web calendars. Everything is laid out in a simple step-by-step sample based environment. Finding Your Way In The Great Outdoors, A Video Course

Here is an opportunity for you to learn how to navigate and find your way in the great outdoors. You will learn how to navigate using traditional methods like the map and compass. From there you will move on to explore the newest GPS (Global Positioning system) technologies. Upon completion of this course you will have the experience and knowledge to navigate the outdoors using traditional orienteering methods and a GPS. You will then be able to pass this knowledge on to your students. You will need a compass and access to a GPS to take this course. A GPS may be available thru the instructor.
